Dose Safety:
The recommended daily maximum of calcium depends on age, including for pregnant or breastfeeding patients. Most patients are enouraged to keep their calcium intake between 1000-1200 mg a day including food sources. Taking more than the daily maximum below can increase risk of kidney stones and other complications.
Pregnant: Taking more than the maximum amount of calcium during pregnancy can eventually cause a DECREASE in the calcium levels of the fetus. This low calcium can lead to an increased risk of seizures, especially if the high calcium levels are during the 3rd trimester.
